Doug Engel, the owner of CBJ Vizslas, began his journey with his first vizsla back in the early 1980s while he was in junior high. He always regarded Rusty as an exceptional hunting companion and the best dog he ever owned. Fast forward several years, Doug is now married to his wife, Lynnette, and they have three sons, Cole, Blake, and Ja

Fast forward several years, Doug is now married to his wife, Lynnette, and they have three sons, Cole, Blake, and Jarrett. This family foundation led to the creation of CBJ Vizslas. We are a reputable breeder that is focused on quality. With nearly 20 years of breeding experience, we have learned what it takes to be a caring and responsible breeder. CBJ Vizslas offers great bloodlines, excellent hunting and outstanding family pets.

Our Team
Our team at CBJ Vizslas consists of owners Doug and Lynnette Engel, along with their three sons, and of course plenty of friends who enjoy helping with puppy socialization. We love hunting with our vizslas, but also love the couch snuggles and nap buddies our dogs have become.

Doug, Lynnette, and their boys are not just breeding Vizsla dogs, but also taking the time to nurture beautiful, intelligent, sweet-natured, and exceptionally healthy Vizsla family members. We were initially nervous about bringing home a Tasmanian Devil, as we knew the breed can be very energetic, but Hayes has truly exceeded our expectations as a family dog. Not only is he extremely gentle, loving, and affectionate, but unlike many hunting Vizslas we've met, he's also completely and utterly chill and snuggly at home (make no mistake, though - he goes into full cheetah mode at the park!). Doug and Lynnette have continued to support us with answers, advice, and friendship after bringing Hayes home, and they sincerely love all the updates and pictures we send. It is clear that they are truly invested in the lives of their dogs long after they leave their Iowa farm. Growing up, I had Pugs and a Pekingese, while my husband had Labradors and Shetland Sheepdogs. During college, a friend introduced us to two Vizslas, a breed we had never heard of before. After accompanying him on a hike, we were so impressed by the intelligence, sweetness, and loyalty of these dogs that we decided this HAD to be our future dog!
Fast forward to wedding bells and our first child, and I found myself reaching out to CBJ Vizslas to inquire about a puppy. They were incredibly sweet and provided me with updated pictures weekly. They even start getting their puppies interested in grouse wings early on for those interested in hunting.
Although we are avid deer hunters and haven't yet pursued bird hunting, our Vizsla exceeded our expectations on a partridge hunt with an outfitter. The guide was thoroughly impressed, as it took only minutes to show her the ropes, leaving everyone in the group amazed. The bloodlines of CBJ Vizslas is truly remarkable, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for Vizslas!
Lucy possesses above-average skills for a pointer, but for my kids, she is their security blanket, adventure buddy, and the best cuddler!
